I predict there will be hangings of people who approved a tiger event aboard ship.

Can’t be much worse than the Norovirus boat.
I’ve only heard legends from coworkers... but my god, its about the worst thing I could possibly imagine.

You’d think, of all organizations, the military would have its priorities straight. Crazy to be that stupid.

I’ve had the Norovirus at least twice, it’s terrible but only lasts 1-2 days then you are over it. It also doesn’t kill you, it just makes you shit and vomit for 24 hrs.

Being stuck in a metal tube with 140 people all shitting and vomiting and only 7 toilets might make me want to die.

Based on my vet friends and families experiences, I would not assume this.

The COVID broke out and people kept embarking on cruise ships. Norovirus happened repeatedly and people kept emb arking on cruise ships. Those ships take like 5,000 passengers and have enough deck chairs for all but 4,900 of them.

I knew a guy who was a Marine and he spoke of being on a troop ship in rough seas and the head was built over a giant stainless steel tray and all these dudes in there puking and the barf all sloshing around in the giant tray. I want to die just thinking about it.
Have you every watched Das Boot ?

I work with a marine who deployed on troop ships back in the late 70s/early 80s and has similar stories.
I haven’t watched Das Boot. I lived it for a while and still work in that community. Im sure I will see it at some point.

There are stories of norwegian resistance intentionally messing with the canning to either give uboat crews spoiled food or sardines with laxatives.

I bet a seaman or two would be tempted to vacate their bowels in a torpedo tube.

They always fed us very well. If you wanted to be a fat boy, you could eat 4 meals a day, every 6 hours. Breakfast was normal fare (eggs, bacon, etc.), lunch was usually sandwiches, burgers, taco tuesday, etc. Dinner was always fantastic - chicken, steak, etc. And we always had dessert - ice cream, pie, and one of my favorites - “Angle Dangle Cake” - see sometimes the cake would setup when we were doing maneuvers so one edge of the cake was 5" thick and the other was like 1" thick.
Midrats (Midnight Rations) was always an adventure, though. It was frat boy college food, and we had silly names for some of it - “death pillows” (canned ravioli ), “hamsters” or “pus pockets” (fried chicken cordon bleu s), chicken wheels , beanies and weenies, etc.
We had a guy onboard we called “ Chunk” who developed the “Food For Freedom” plan - eat every meal on the boat, and re-enlist and use your bonus money to buy extra food for when you’re at home so you can get fat and get a general/medical discharge. He actually went on to lose some weight and become a very successful senior enlisted leader.

I think people were doing it wherever they could. I remember on a few particularly awful surface transits we’d all carry little blue 1 gallon buckets in case we got to feeling sea sick.
